Before taking an HPV test to screen for cervical cancer, it’s important for patients to keep several precautions in mind :
- Do not have an HPV test while menstruating.
- Avoid tampons for two days before an HPV test.
- Do not use vaginal medicines or birth control foams for two days before an HPV test.
- Do not douche within two days of an HPV test.
- Refrain from having sex 72 hrs before an HPV test.
- Do not do this test if you are pregnant.
Can the patient do this test if they have white discharge ?
Ans - Yes
After using a pessary, after how many days can this test be done?
Ans - A one week gap is required after the course is complete, following which the test can be done.
When can the patient have sexual contact before this test?
Ans - before 72 hours
What will be the procedure of purchasing the HPV kit?
Ans - The Self sampling kit will be available at the 4th Floor Laboratory in Gupte hospital. After collecting the HPV sample patient can return it in the laboratory & they will get the receipt there itself. Patient will pay the money in the lab itself.
Sample storage instructions for patients?
Ans - After collection of sample it can be stored at 2-8°C (routine temperature of household refrigerators) for 72 hours & the patient will have to return that sample to the hospital within 48 hours.
Can patient do this test during menstrual cycle bleeding?
Ans - No. the test cannot be done while bleeding. It can be done once the the bleeding stops.
Should patient clean / wash the private area before the test ?
Ans - No. Not needed.
Can Patient do this test if she has used menstrual cups, tampons etc.
Ans - Yes.
Are there any food restrictions for this test ?
Ans - No.
Who can do this test ?
Ans - Married or unmarried women between the age of 30 to 65 years of age.
Can this test be carried out if the patient has received HPV vaccination ?
Ans - If the patient is vaccinated there is no need of HPV test.
When can the patient take the HPV vaccination?
Ans - if the HPV test is positive – vaccination should not be taken. Patient should consult the doctor for further management. If the HPV test is negative – women below 45 yrs of age can take the vaccine.
When will the patient get the report & where?
Ans - Report will be available in 10 days. Patient can collect it from Gupte hospital
